New kitchen? Let Norfolk Current handle the electrics - our expert team of electricians work to the highest standards meaning your kitchen will not only look good, but will be safe.
If you’re planning a new kitchen, it’s the perfect time to take a look at the electrics—and make sure everything’s done safely and sensibly before the new units go in. Honestly, a bit of planning at the start saves a lot of hassle (and cost) later.
The process...
I always start with a chat. Once you’ve decided on your new kitchen layout, I’ll come round and we’ll go over what you’re after—whether that’s extra sockets, better lighting, or wiring in a new oven or hob. Then, once the old kitchen’s ripped out—but before any plastering’s done—I’ll come in to get the first fix sorted.
That’s the messy bit—chasing out walls, running cables, getting everything in the right place while there’s still easy access. Then, once the kitchen fitter’s done their job, I’ll come back to connect everything and get it all working.
Most jobs take me two visits and usually two full days in total, depending on how much needs doing. I don’t charge by the hour—I price the job based on what’s involved. That way, I’m focused on getting it done properly, not rushing to stay within a time slot.
A lot of what I do in kitchens is adding new sockets (there’s never enough in the old ones), fitting under-cupboard lighting, and wiring in ovens and hobs. But I also make sure everything meets current regulations—because let’s face it, just because something worked in the old kitchen doesn’t mean it’s still okay now.
One of the biggest issues I see is when someone’s tried to cut corners—sockets in the wrong place, cables hidden in the wall, and dodgy connections that cause faults later on. I’ve had to rewire parts of circuits just to sort out problems that never should’ve happened. It’s frustrating for the customer and avoidable if it’s done right in the first place.
Before I do anything, we’ll also check your fuse box. Any new work needs to be properly protected with RCDs or RCBOs, and we’ll make sure your gas and water bonding is up to scratch too. If your kitchen’s layout is totally different to what was there before, we might need to run new circuits—but we’ll cover all that when we go through the plan.
